Burghausen has been a Fairtrade city since 2012, so it supports fair trade with fair prices and fair working conditions. Fairtrade should be a priority goal of urban action and a hallmark of the entire urban community.

Since 2014, the association “Fairhandeln eV” has been running the one-world store “fair and fine” in the grubs in the Burghausen old town. In addition, the association organizes and supports many projects and activities that promote fair trade.

Many local companies in Burghausen support fair trade. For example, all florist shops in Burghausen offer fair trade flowers for sale. Various clothing stores also sell certified fair trade clothing. The Burghausen parishes are also committed to fair trade.

Some daycare centers and schools are part of the fair trade campaign in Burghausen. Both Burghausen high schools Aventinus Gymnasium and Kurfürst-Maximilian-Gymnasium, carry the “Fair School” award. The sports daycare center has been open since autumn 2021 SV Wacker Burghausen a fair daycare center. Other daycare centers and schools want to apply for the award as a fair institution.

“Fair trade is fair and offers disadvantaged countries long-term development prospects. Fair trade improves the livelihoods in the countries of origin of refugees. Fair trade ultimately promotes world peace. The Fair Trade City of Burghausen makes a small but important contribution to this.”

Sabine Bachmeier, social officer and head of the Fair Trade steering group

General Information

A number of criteria must be met in order for a city or municipality to be entitled to bear the title “Fairtrade Town”. The award expires automatically after two years if the city does not apply again. That is why the commitment of the city of Burghausen must not let up. The Fair Trade steering group, headed by city councilor and social affairs officer Sabine Bachmeier, is significantly involved with the support of the “Fairhandeln eV” association in defining and implementing new goals and projects.
