Mayor Florian Schneider presents Christian Lerch with the award for the best children's and youth film© Biennale Bavaria Internatioanl, Heiner Heine

The Biennale Bavaria International is the international festival of new homeland films and takes place every two years in the Inn-Salzach region with venues in Altötting, Burghausen, Haag in Oberbayern, Mühldorf and Wasserburg am Inn as well as in Trostberg. The organizers are showing around 40 films from the four categories feature film, documentary, children's and youth film and newcomer/independent on the subject of home.

An independent jury awards prizes in the feature film and documentary categories. Children's and youth films as well as newcomers/independents are awarded prizes by the audience.

The Biennale Bavaria offers filmmakers who deal with the topic of home a platform and encourages socio-political discourse with an interdisciplinary supporting program. The festival pursues the goal of promoting an open, lively homeland, bringing people together and finding common ground.

The Biennale Bavaria wants to offer the local creative and cultural industries as well as local filmmakers a place for networking and new creative spaces and give regional photo and film classes opportunities to participate.

A supporting program of discussions, exhibitions, guided tours, readings and concerts offers festival visitors different perspectives on the concept of home and local history.

The attractive format is curated by the internationally active film scholar, critic and festival expert Joachim Kurz. The Biennale Bavaria International is sponsored by the participating municipalities, cities and two districts, the Inn-Salzach Tourist Association and the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF Bayern). The association “International Festival of New Homeland Films eV” organizes the festival.
