Burghausen is jazz! For decades, this type of music has shaped an essential part of the city's cultural life and has created a unique attitude to life in Burghausen since the first jazz week in 1970.

The International Jazz Week made Burghausen known worldwide as a jazz stronghold. Renowned artists lend a hand here. Be it Chet Baker, Monty Alexander or Al Jarreau – for all the international stars it was or is a given that they should play in Burghausen.

But the jazz city of Burghausen is more than just the International Jazz Week. Throughout the year, music can be heard on the Burghausen stages or in Jazz cellar inspiring jazz tones. Numerous events entertain jazz fans from all over the world with their diverse program. Burghausen's jazz-loving audience has the opportunity to attend a jazz concert, a jam session or an open air all year round.

The city of Burghausen is also very committed to supporting young musicians. At the start of the International Jazz Week, the city, in collaboration with the Jazz Interest Group (IG Jazz) the Jazz Young Talent Prize. The prize has developed into a real crowd puller over the years. The five bands that reach the final always play to a sold-out crowd.

Whether national or regional up-and-coming talent – ​​anyone who wants to attract attention as a jazz musician has time and again the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in Burghausen. Whether with technical equipment or a stage for the performances: the city of Burghausen offers young musicians a diverse range to present themselves - and in this way further promotes the unique attitude to life of the jazz metropolis Burghausen.
