Sports enthusiasts can learn and practice dozens of sports in Burghausen. In addition to sports such as handball, basketball, football, tennis, wrestling and badminton, Burghausen also offers the opportunity to try out and practice unicycling, sailing, shooting, paddling and windsurfing. The wide range of offers has the right sport ready for almost every athlete.

In addition, the city of Burghausen offers a number of other sporting and health-promoting leisure activities that have become firmly established: These include the skating facility on Burghausen's Bürgerplatz, three Kneipp pools in the city area or curling on the city's ice rink in the winter months.

“The city of Burghausen enthusiastically promotes sport – mass sport for everyone and top athletes from Burghausen. This is how we invest in the future and in our offspring.”

Florian Schneider, Mayor of Burghausen

sports facilities

Numerous, well-equipped sports facilities - from football pitches and tennis courts to a shooting range and spacious sports halls - offer optimal conditions for sporting activities in Burghausen.

First and foremost is the modern, spacious SV Wacker Burghausen sports park at the northern entrance to the city. The SV Wacker wrestlers who are successful throughout Germany have their own competition and training hall at their disposal. A football stadium with a grandstand that can hold several thousand spectators can be found in the Burghausen sports park, as well as football training fields, ten outdoor and three indoor tennis courts and a training facility for the SV Wacker-Schützen. Two large and one small sports hall offer space for a wide variety of sporting activities in the departments.

In the immediate vicinity of the sports park there is a spacious indoor and outdoor climbing hall. The climbing center of the DAV Burghausen offers its visitors more than 20 different climbing routes, which are regularly re-bolted, as well as a bouldering room.

In the municipal indoor and outdoor swimming pools, competitive swimmers can use a 50-metre-long sports pool for training. Both facilities have diving towers with one, three and five meter boards as well as lovingly designed children's pools. A whirlpool and a Kneipp pool in the outdoor pool as well as a brine, an adventure and a diving pool in the indoor pool make a visit to the Burghausen baths not only attractive for enthusiastic swimmers.

The footpaths around the Wöhrsee and along the Salzach attract walkers and joggers day after day. Many recreational athletes also like to use the fitness trail at the northern entrance to Burghausen.

Skateboarders and BMX riders can show off their skills at the fun park and on the skate ramps at Burghauser Bürgerplatz. There is often a lot of activity here, especially in the afternoons.

In snowy winters, the cross-country and skating trail on Berghamer Straße is a special magnet for recreational athletes: they do their rounds in the forest park on cold winter days.

Sports Clubs

With around 5.000 members, SV Wacker Burghausen is one of the largest sports clubs in Bavaria. This makes it the association with the largest number of members in Burghausen. In more than 25 departments, the members of SV Wacker Burghausen will find a comprehensive offer for all age groups, for hobby, health and competitive athletes. Children up to the age of ten can also visit the SV Wacker "Children's Sports School" - the KISS. The SV Wacker Burghausen is also responsible for the sports daycare center where the KISS sports will be taught.

TV 1868 has its home in Burghausen's old town with more than 2.000 members. TV 1868 is also one of the largest clubs in the region. In total it has 17 departments that are both recreational and competitive sports-oriented. The TV 1868 cheerleaders, for example, are just as well-known nationwide as the competitive athletes in the club's Ju-Jutsu department.

At both SV Wacker Burghausen and TV 1868, trained trainers conduct the courses or introduce sports enthusiasts to the various sports.

The DJK-SV-Raitenhaslach maintains seven departments and has around 900 members. The numerous honorary trainers and trainers are primarily committed to youth work and mass sport.

The Burghausen section of the German Alpine Association (DAV) offers its 4.300 members regular hiking, climbing, mountain biking and winter sports courses and tours. Their program includes offers for beginners and advanced learners. The DAV Burghausen also operates the climbing and bouldering hall - the climbing center Burghausen - to which non-members also have access.

The Burghauser Kneipp Club repeatedly invites its members to lectures and events on the topic of health. The Kneipp pool in the TV 1868 gym on Mühlenstraße is particularly worth mentioning: it is not only very large and offers a magnificent view of Burghausen Castle when you tread water, but also has a natural flow with the Wöhrbach. The two other pools are located in the Burghauser outdoor pool and on the circular path of the Wöhrsee. All Kneipp pools are freely accessible. Once a month, the municipal building yard employees remove the regrowing algae in the pools.

The ice swimming club Serwus Burghausen was founded in 2015. The abbreviation Serwus stands for Swimming Ice Knights Wöhrsee. Most of the members of the club train in the Wöhrsee – summer and winter.

In 2017, Serwus hosted the Ice Swimming World Championships in Burghausen. At the World Championships in Tallinn (Estonia) in 2018 and in Bled (Slovenia) in 2020, the Burghausen ice swimmers won dozens of world and vice world championship titles as well as third places. In addition to competitive ice swimmers, Serwus also appeals to amateur sports fans. Since ice swimming is an extreme sport, Serwus Burghausen focuses on safety in ice water. The ice swimming club organizes events such as carnival swimming, the city championships and the New Year's swimming.
