Memorial to those murdered in the Bavarian Freedom Action

A large plaque in the Burghausen Botanical Garden commemorates the Burghausen victims of the Bavarian Freedom Action of April 28, 1945. The members of the Bavarian Freedom Action wanted to end the war and the National Socialist dictatorship early. Around 1.000 participants carried out 27 actions on April 28 and 1945, 78. All those involved had been active against National Socialism even before 1945.

Among them were the Burghausen residents Jakob Scheipel, Ludwig Schön and Josef Stegmaier, who were active in the political community of Burghausen and the parish of St. Konrad. The three worked at Wacker and wanted to keep the National Socialists in the plant to prevent destruction. Shortly before the end of the war, on April 28, 1945, they were executed by an SS court-martial in the Wacker factory as part of the Bavarian Freedom Action.
