The Burghausen Bridge Run has traditionally taken place on the second Sunday in October for more than 20 years. The number of participants has increased steadily over the years: Before Corona, around 1.500 runners took part in the bridge run.

The participants have the choice between three routes of different lengths.

The course starts on the Burghauser town square, leads through the Burghauser Grüben, around the Wöhrsee and on the Austrian side of the Salzach back towards the town square.

Runners can register for one of three different competitions:

  • Walking circuit (5,0 km)
  • Fun run (3,2 km)
  • Main run (8,8 km)

For young participants there is a parent-child run of around 400 meters in length, the so-called "salt stone run". In the parent-child run, the parents form a couple with their child/children and take a salt stone home on the Austrian side of the old bridge.

The entry fees of the participants go to a good cause. Various non-profit organizations such as women help women eV, Burghauser Tafel eV or the Hochburg-Ach youth development association benefit from the money.

Most of the proceeds go to the Burghausen Citizens' Island social fund, which is used to help people in need. Traditionally, one third of the proceeds go to organizations in the Hochburg-Ach community and two thirds to organizations in Burghausen.

The main organizers of the bridge run are the city of Burghausen in cooperation with the municipality of Hochburg-Ach, SV Wacker Burghausen, TV 1868 Burghausen and Bürgerinsel Burghausen eV

Information on registration, routing and parking options can be found at www.salzach-brueckenlauf.de.

"For me, the bridge run means running for a good cause in a wonderful ambience and being accompanied to the finish line by the thunderous applause of the spectators and drum rolls."

Uta Starnecker, resident of Burghausen and regular participant in the bridge run
