For a city of its size, Burghausen has an exceptional appeal. This applies above all to its economic strength, the outstanding cultural offerings and the outstanding educational institutions. They shape the quality of life in the city on the Salzach as well as the city's unique commitment to all issues relating to the environment.

In Burghausen, natural areas offer animals and plants opportunities to live. The areas are mostly also leisure and recreation areas for the local population. With the help of numerous projects, the city makes the ecological basis of life a sensual experience for the people and awakens their sense of responsibility.

In the context of species and climate protection, the city of Burghausen concentrates on aspects such as the protection of endangered animals, genetic diversity, reintroduction of animals and the creation and management of sustainable natural areas.

Animal landscape maintenance projects such as cattle and goat grazing are also on the agenda of the city's environmental agency, as is the care and maintenance of various areas, nature trails, meadow orchards, forests and green spaces that are deliberately not fertilized in order to create habitats for many wildflower species.

Those responsible are constantly developing new projects that focus on the natural areas around the Wöhrsee, along the Salzach or the Burghang. Small gardens such as the Bräugartl and the Mühlenpark in Burghausen's old town invite you to relax, play and get together in addition to the existing landscaped areas. The Environment Agency upgrades certain areas by creating site-appropriate mixed deciduous forests.

Future or temporary impairments of nature and landscape can be compensated in Burghausen with a voluntary ecological upgrading of areas. Not only nature benefits from these areas, but also the inhabitants of Burghausen.
