project profile

The lake laboratory at Wöhrsee pursues the goal of bringing children and young people from the region closer to the life and ecosystem of the local body of water. The Burghausen nature conservation officers and volunteers make this fascinating offer possible through their commitment.

The lake laboratory expands the range of courses at Wöhrsee by another interesting attraction. So far, the range of courses has included excursions, bike tours and the researcher's diary campaign.

Activities

The lake laboratory offers a wide variety of options for exploring the Wöhrsee: First of all, this includes general information on the history of the Wöhrsee, the Wöhrbach and the mills that millers used to operate there.

In the bathing area, visitors learn which animal species live in the Wöhrsee. There they deal with the developmental stages of fish. At the upper lake there is the possibility to observe the bird life with binoculars and to explore the Wöhrbach.

On the shore of the lake itself, the researchers from the lake laboratory take water samples from the Wöhrsee and examine them in detail.

School classes taking part in research days in the sea science laboratory explore the terrain and the water in two groups: a research group and an excursion group.
