Noise, radiation and light in cities and communities cause many problems: they not only pollute the environment, but can also affect people's health.
According to surveys, more than 70 percent of the population in Germany feels stressed by noise. In the city of Burghausen, a noise protection ordinance regulates noise pollution. In addition, the city has already taken numerous measures, such as the construction of a noise protection wall on Burgkirchner Strasse, to reduce the noise level in the city area. In order to protect its residents from excessive noise pollution, the city is continuously working on further considerations and measures.
A large number of mobile phone systems, electrical household appliances, computers, radar systems, high-voltage lines or transformers generate electromagnetic fields. To ensure that these do not cause any damage to health, the legislator has created numerous regulations.
To protect against harmful environmental effects from non-ionizing radiation, high and low frequency systems must be set up and operated in such a way that they comply with the legal limit values of the 26th Federal Immission Control Ordinance (BImSchV).
Even normal light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Light sources can be a nuisance and are therefore subject to certain regulations. In the event of disturbances caused by light, the Burghausen Environment Agency provides information and, if necessary, puts you in contact with the energy supply company. To assess whether or how much the light is a nuisance, the team from the environmental agency uses the information provided by the state working group on immission control (LAI).
The city of Burghausen regularly takes part in campaigns against air pollution, such as the global Earth Hour campaign, to save light for the climate. To do this, the city switches off the lighting of the world's longest castle for one day a year. The Burghausen campus is also involved in the Earth Hour climate campaign.
