The Maria-Ward-Realschule is the Realschule in Burghausen. It offers four compulsory elective areas: Mathematical-scientific-technical, economic, linguistic and social.

The Maria Ward secondary school in Burghausen belongs to the Maria Ward school foundation in Passau. Maria Ward was an English nun active in the 17th century. She founded numerous schools for young women and girls and is regarded as a pioneer for better education for girls. Until 2018, Maria Ward sisters lived in the former convent and today's schoolhouse.

The Realschule offers open all-day care.

Extended range of courses

Bilingual geography class
In the eighth grade, the Maria-Ward-Realschule teaches the USA bilingually. This means that the teachers do not teach large parts of the lessons in German but in English.

Student exchange USA
Together with the Kurfürst-Maximilian-Gymnasium, the Maria-Ward-Realschule organizes an annual exchange with a school in Tennessee, USA. Pupils visit their partners in the USA for two weeks, and later in the school year the exchange partners from Tennessee come to Burghausen.
