Kurfürst-Maximilian-Gymnasium

The Kurfürst-Maximilian-Gymnasium is located in the old town of Burghausen and is a language and music school.

The namesake, Elector Maximilian I, was Duke of Bavaria from 1597. He expanded Bavaria's political and financial position in Europe. Elector Maximilian was also known for his art politics and patronage.

The Kumax-Gymnasium offers open all-day care.

The Kurfürst-Maximilian-Gymnasium (Kumax) defines itself as a cultural high school. School attaches greater importance to personal education and creative development than pure factual knowledge. The Kumax cultivates traditions. The Kumax also gives the school community a lot of space.

The Kumax has been an environmental school since autumn 2020. For its commitment to the environment and sustainability, the grammar school was awarded the title of “Environmental School in Europe/International School of Sustainability”. The Kumax was able to confirm the award in the following year.

Extended range of courses

film and photography classes
Kumax offers fifth-grade students a three-year film and photo course designed to improve children's media skills. In the course, the learners acquire film and photo skills and, among other things, take part in a film project.

Student exchange USA
For ninth and tenth graders, Kumax offers an exchange with a high school in Tennessee, USA. The students of the Burghausen Gymnasium visit their partners in the USA for two weeks, and later in the school year the American students come to Burghausen.
