Official opening ceremony with many spectators and challenge participants - 12.000 square meters of fun park created for sports enthusiasts
The skaters were there until dusk on April 13, 2024, the day of the official opening skateparks, on the road and practicing their tricks. The skate park has been open to use since December, but they were waiting for better weather for the opening ceremony. And the weather could hardly have been nicer on opening day. Many families, young people and those young at heart gathered to watch or to show off their skateboard skills themselves.
“We have rounded off what we started with the motor skills park in a very good way. “This has become a wonderful area,” said First Mayor Florian Schneider, gesturing around. Because with the completion of the skate park, the construction project “fun park“ completed: Motor skills park, bike park and skate park together form a 12.000 square meter area for children, young people and adults to have fun outside, train and exercise together.
The employees and volunteers of the youth office organized a competition for the opening in addition to home-grilled hamburgers and chilled drinks. Based on the professional skater Tony Hawk and the video game named after him, all participants were able to perform various tricks. Anyone who completed at least four of the five specified challenges received a T-shirt as a prize. Over 40 people took part, and 20 were able to collect the prize at the end.
“We deliberately chose the format of the challenges so that it is not a contest against each other with direct competitive pressure, but rather everyone has fun,” explained Florian Zitzelsberger, head of the YUZ and organizer of the opening party came up with the concept. After the opening, we went to the JUZ, where the skaters ended the day with a cozy party.
The skate park as well as the neighboring one Bikepark are funded by LEADER with 300.000 euros. LEADER is a package of measures from the European Union that promotes innovative projects in rural areas and thus supports these regions in their independent development. The city invested a total of 284.000 euros in the skate and bike park and thus in the youth.
