The Munich photographer Christopher Thomas shows symbols in cinematic-like photographs that remind him of his childhood and a feeling of happiness, spontaneity and immediacy: carousels, cotton candy, Ferris wheels and much more. Embedded in rural and urban landscapes, the images seduce the viewer to immerse themselves in the dreamlike scenery. But behind it lurks the fear of losing happiness and the confrontation with the undeniable power of transience.
Christopher Thomas, best known for his city portraits and works on the Oberammergau Passion Play, shows photographs taken on several continents over the last twenty years in his long-term project “BITTERSWEET”. Visual narratives of entertainment, romance, decay, escape, pleasure and anxiety.
